Welcome to Galion  Intermediate School!

Hello to our Intermediate families! Second semester is beginning and winter is definitely here! We welcome you to visit us anytime!

Our One2One program with iPads for all students is successfully implemented. Students are given many opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge through iPads throughout the day. Students are using notability and pages often to make presentations and project-based learning. I enjoy visiting social studies to see how they are incorporating many of the apps that correlate with our content standards. Science has become a favorite for many of our students as they research life science and other core content standards! Student engagement has risen with our implementation and students are eager to learn knowing that throughout the day the opportunity to use their devices is readily available. Many districts in Ohio have contacted us regarding our implementation and have visited our buildings to gather first-hand information and observe classrooms utilizing these devices.

Security of our buildings has become in the forefront of our minds after the horrible tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary. Our local police and fire department stay in constant communication with us concerning updates and important information. We continue to have regular lockdown drills and work closely with our students to keep them at utmost safety. We are required by state law to conduct fire, tornado and lockdown drills on a periodic basis. These are recorded and sent to local fire and police departments and also sent to the State Fire Marshal.

The Ohio Achievement Assessments will be conducted in the month of April. Reading OAA for grades 3,4 and 5 is scheduled for April 23rd. Math OAA for grades 3,4 and 5 is scheduled for April 25th and Science OAA for 5thgrade only is scheduled for April 30th. These assessments are very important for your child to demonstrate their knowledge and continual success for their educational career. These tests are 2 ½ hours in the morning on the above dates. It is critical that your child not be absent on those days unless absolutely necessary. Please schedule all appointments in the afternoon or another day. Make-ups are very stressful for our students and taking this test in their normal classroom environment is conducive to success. A good night’s sleep and positive attitude go a long way for achievement! Breakfast will continue to be provided on those days.

To conclude; your support and willingness to be a part of your child’s educational career is essential to their success! Knowing that you value their education is critical to later success in life! Simply put; we need you to reinforce education for our youngsters! In today’s world, they will need the best we can provide in technology, communication and academic skills. Our students will make the world a better place someday!!
