Galion Intermediate School

Activities

Part of the Learning Experience

Students at Galion Intermediate have several activities that will be a part of their learning experience. Students begin in grades three through fifth to experience leadership opportunities within the systems of the building
  •     Intermediate Student Council- Students are chosen for this organization by displaying leadership skills and problem solving strategies. We involve these students in various school and community events throughout the year.
  •     Student Helpers- Students are chosen for this job by displaying good organization and listening skills. They are given responsibility to make copies, bring messages to the office and help with classroom jobs.
  •     Computer Helpers- Computer helpers are chosen for their responsibility and reliability. This job entails turning on and turning off computers daily. These students will be responsible for making sure the computer lab is ready in the morning and straightened up in the afternoon before school closing.
  •     Library Helpers- These students are chosen by their ability to follow directions well and accuracy with sequencing. They will often be asked to shelve books or straighten up for incoming classes.
  •     Cafeteria Helpers- These students sign up through forms that are sent home in the Fall. They are given the responsibility of helping in the kitchen and cafetorium during lunchtime. Each homeroom does a weekly rotation throughout the year. Four students help at a time and are given lunch free that week only.
  •     Incentive Programs- Many incentive programs are done through our Behavior Plan and Scholastic Reading Counts. We recognize attendance, grades, etc. at the end of the year with our awards assembly. All A Honor Roll, A/B Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance will be posted in our Trophy Case in the Foyer area every quarter.
  •     Scholastic Reading Counts Program- Our reading incentive program is a highly motivational incentive for all students. Students earn reading tags, badges, and several rewards as they progress through their points. This program is used only as an incentive and is not to be used as a reading grade. General assessments assist teachers in instruction and placement of students with intervention.
  •     Safety Patrols- Mr. Dawson supervises our Safety Patrol with several students. These students help protect and “patrol” the Intermediate and Primary students. These students come in early and stay later every day. Their leadership and dedication to their job is admirable and we appreciate their willingness to keep our students safe every day.
  •     Elementary Band- Students in fifth grade may participate in Band that meets Monday through Friday before school. We encourage all students to participate in our Band program. Mrs. Hammond directs the elementary band.
  •     Choir- 5th Grade students in choir will try out the beginning of the year and perform throughout the year in the community and in school functions. Mrs.Freytag will direct the choir.
